​Bury is also known locally as a town on the River Irwell in Greater Manchester, England. It is located 5.5 miles (8.9km) east of Bolton, 5.9 mi (9.5 km), west-southwest from Rochdale, and 7.9 miles (12.7km) north-northwest from Manchester. Bury is the administrative and largest settlement in the Metropolitan Borough. It has a population of 78.723. Bury's population is 187,474, as of 2011. Bury was once part of Lancashire. It emerged during the Industrial Revolution as an industrial town that produced textiles.

Bury is well-known for its traditional Bury Market, and black pudding. The town is also home to the Manchester Metrolink tram line. Sir Robert Peel, a Bury resident, was the British Prime Minister and founder of the Metropolitan Police. The Peel Memorial is located outside Bury's parish church. The Peel Monument can be found on Holcombe Hill, Ramsbottom. It overlooks the entire borough.
